1.3 I held a baby today

Barely two months old. The nail on his left pinky finger reminded me of a glitter particle catching the sun on a window sill as I pass by. Teeny-tiny, yet enough to entrance you.
The first demo I ever recorded all by myself is called "Birthday". I only recorded it a few weeks ago. This demo is that speckle of glitter. A baby's pinky nail set free on the road of inevitable growth. Nurturing and clipping it will need if any form of strength is to gather.
I've been listening to a lot of Elliott Smith again. Either/Or is a miracle. From start to finish, every second cradles you. Have you ever tried to recreate some of those sounds? It's so hard. The guitars. They jingle but somehow don't have a lot of high end??? How did he do it? The whole record feels like it was recorded on a 4-track in some basement. Well… it does and it doesn’t. It’s so weird. And yeah sure, although most of it was recorded in different home studios, the level of sonic mastery needed to accomplish what it became is insane. The right gear, with the right guy, and the right songs.
He probably didn't see it that way, but I do.

Smith played most or all of the instrumentation on his records. What a mad man. Mastering one instrument is near impossible, let alone multiple. I'm sure he would say he's no master, but to me, he is. At least in the sense of being able to execute the sonic landscape of his inner world.
As for me, I see myself being more of a creative director in my project. Acquiring the right, masterful people to be a part of my band with whom I can express in different facets, the parts I imagine. Whether it be me mouthing the part, or playing it shittily on an instrument, I want my ideas to serve as a ground for these musicians to play upon. I will help guide these musicians into the emotional core of the music, and from there, we will explore together. The guitar, and Logic home demos will be my tools.
I know the songs will evolve past their demo once we all finally get in the room together. The demo will help keep me grounded through it all.
Ok, so what is the band?
Well, I'll sing... did you guess that? hehe.
Thank the heavens above for Chrissy. He will play acoustic rhythm guitar. All my songs are written on acoustic guitar, so Chrissy and I could play a show just the two of us. Shit... I could even play guitar and sing on my own.... THAT SCARES ME AHHHHH.
I do envision a cello player, bassist, and maybe an electric guitar for atmosphere (I'm not too worried about electric guitar at this point in time though). I also hear a little flute in there. Maybe... a Chilean flute... una Quena... not too sure yet. Harp, violins. I could do a big band. For now, guitar, cello, bass, percussion.
I have a vision for the sound, but a lot of it is still somewhat of a mystery... even to myself...

Ps. Listen to Alameda. That snare sounds sooooooo good. Every time I play it, I walk down Alameda hehhehehe
